ZAST REAL ESTATE LULEÅ 2007
I opened an office of ZAST REAL ESTATE in Luleå, a city in the north of Sweden.

Together with my assistants Carolin Wachter and Arvid Tuuri I “mapped” the city: We tried to find “empty” spaces which are really not used and abandoned in Lulea (100.000 citizens), then we shot photos and wrote descriptions of each place to put together a real “business”catalog for the luleån community.
I invited interested luleån and swedish people from different social backgrounds to dream about what the offered places may look like in the future. I asked them to make drawings directly on b/w copies of the featured objects.
ZAST REAL ESTATE was part of the exhibition “Let There Be Light”, curated by Meira. D. Ahmemulic in the Konsthallen/ Kulturenshus Luleå
photographers: Arvid Tuuri, Carolin Wachter and Thomas Bratzke

I gave lectures and workshops concentrated on the project and the possibilities of changing the appearance of a city, and I tried to encourage my clients to start with a personal project in Luleå.
With ZAST REAL ESTATE I want to offer a frame to bundle the energy of the citizens who are not professionally working with design and art. They have brilliant ideas. What will happen with all these ideas the luleån should decide themselves.
I got about 200 sketches. Some of them are featured in the movie. The sketches and notes I collected and handed out to the major of Luleå: Karl Petersen. He was delighted by all the suggestions handed in by the citizens.
I am curious what will happen next up there 100 km south of the artic circle.
Credits go to: Meira D. Ahmemulic, Ingela Ögren Weinmar and the whole Kulturenshus Crew, Arvid Tuuri and Carolin Wachter. Thanks so much!
